Pain, tenderness, swelling and bad breath are all reliable indicators that you have an oral health problem. But it is much easier, more comfortable and less expensive if those problems can be located and addressed before any symptoms appear. Ideally, you should see our dentist and team for a dental exam twice a year as part of your visit for your cleaning.
After a team member has cleaned your teeth, our dentist will perform an exam. This will involve examining your teeth for signs of decay, tooth crowding and other issues. Our dentist will also check for signs of gum disease or bone loss and perform an oral cancer screening. Often, your exam will include X-rays. This will help us locate issues such as cavities between the teeth; teeth that may be erupting, such as wisdom teeth; and problems with your tooth roots. X-rays can also be used to track the development of your smile and changes in your oral health.
After your exam, we will talk with you about what we found and discuss any treatments that you may need or any concerns you may have about your oral health. That discussion may also include suggestions on how you can improve your home care routine and any new products that might benefit your smile. We encourage you to be involved in every aspect of your care and will always welcome your comments. If you have a concern about your dental health, or even if you do not, please contact our team today to schedule your exam.
